I'm a person who's very involved in family life and very much about my family. I have lots of people that I kind of keep in my circle. My mother, my father, my brother, you know we've all stayed close and I think that's the thing that kind of gets you through life. I guess the energy in my life has been the support that I get from the people in my world, so I really cultivate that.
My daughter lives in Brooklyn and she was supposed to deliver my first grandson at Mount Sinai. Her due date was in May and they literally had freezer trucks outside.
I saw a video online of a mother that was sick and had two toddlers at home and was in the hospital by herself about to give birth. It just sounded so horrible. I remember texting my daughter and saying “you have to leave”. It was a really tough thing for me to do because I knew what giving her my blessing to go meant…. It's okay to do this without me.
We were very lucky that her fiancé had the means to get them out of town and they rented a house in Maine and they've been there ever since….I did get to go up once and see the baby.
