At Elmhurst hospital it’s all Covid patients and the nurses are head to toe covered with PPE. They’re PPE all day long and they're sweating and they have rashes and they have bruises over their nose and hives from having to wear the mask so long and so tight, it’s a lot, a lot to deal with.
I know quite a few nurses that have passed since it started.
I have not volunteered as a nurse at Elmhurst or Harlem hospital since my roommate is a senior and she's immunocompromised with HIV. I would never put her at risk. That would be very stupid.. very, very irresponsible.
My friend, who is a doctor at Mount Sinai West, said that the numbers have been going down in the hospital, the deaths, which is good and the overflow isn't as big as it was before when it first started.
I know that means I'll be starting work up again, but I feel it might be too soon, which kind of scares me.
Just entering back into society gives me a little bit of anxiety.
That's my truth.
